Smile for a Lifetime of Greater Denver is a charitable, non-profit organization that provides orthodontic care to individuals who may not otherwise have the opportunity to acquire assistance. We aim to reach individuals with financial challenges, special situations, and orthodontic needs. Nationally, the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation sponsors orthodontic care for hundreds of patients each year, and has participating orthodontists throughout the U.S.
In 2009, Dr. Theroux founded Smile for a Lifetime of Greater Denver as a way to give back to the community and invest in the future of underserved children. It is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Families must have an income of less than 185% of poverty level. Through this organization, Dr. Theroux provides orthodontic treatment to 8-10 local children each year on a completely pro bono basis. Recipients are required to perform a 40 hour community service project as part of the program’s Pay it Forward Clause.
To create self confidence, inspire hope, and change the lives of children in our community in a dramatic way. The gift of a smile can do all this for a deserving, undeserved individual who, in turn, can use this gift to better themselves and our community.
Dr. Theroux graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with highest distinction. He also completed his specialty residency in orthodontics and obtained a Master of Science degree from the University of Minnesota Graduate School.
Dr. Theroux has been selected by the Colorado State Board of Dental Examiners as an orthodontic case reviewer/consultant to the board, and has lectured on the local, state, national and international level on orthodontics. He is the inventor of the Theroux Phase One Essix Retainer, and has conducted extensive research in orthodontic tooth movement.
Dr. Theroux is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists and the American Dental Association as well as the Colorado Dental Association. He was also the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists' representative on the National New and Younger Member Advisory Committee to the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Orthodontists, and was rated as one of the top in 2008 by 5280 Magazine.
Dr. Theroux is lucky to have a Board of Directors who select the recipients and a Board of Advisors. The Board of Advisors members are pediatric dentists who have agreed to treat the Smile for a Lifetime recipients on a pro bono basis for their general dental needs.
